A Vision of Love

It happens every year, and yet it always seems to sneak up out of nowhere. February 14th looms, and you haven’t prepared your annual sacrifice of a stuffed bear with a box of candy to prove your love. It’s too late to get a reservation anywhere “nice”. A bouquet of roses is a classic idea, but flowers die in a week and the markup is astronomical for the month of February. If you want to surprise your Valentine, you might just have to think outside of the heart-shaped box.

All of us at ilumin want you to have a beautiful Valentine’s day, so even though you didn’t get us anything, we went ahead and compiled a list of some of the most breathtaking sights to share with your loved ones this year.

See Em at the Museum

Omaha may be young, but it knows how to import history. No matter where your Valentine’s interests lie, there is an exhibit to tantalize the eyes nearby.

Joslyn
Located at 2200 Dodge street, The Joslyn Museum is an art lover’s paradise. The exquisite building boasts a permanent collection featuring everyone from Renoir to Rembrandt, with exhibits from Degas, Delacroix, and Monet.

Strategic Air Command
War planes, flight suits, and simulators await you at 28210 W Park Hwy in Ashland, Nebraska at the SAC Museum. Historical exhibits offer an education, while hands-on exhibits demonstrate the engineering of flight.

Kaneko
A stroll through the Old Market with a stop at 1111 Jackson for the kinesthetic pleasures at Kaneko are a perfect Valentine’s day-date. From art to philosophy including the current “Light” insulation, sponsored in part by ilumin, Kaneko offers a perfect platform for engagement. *Ahem*, that’s not a hint from us, by the way.

The Children’s Museum
If you will be entertaining the pint-sized loves of your life this Valentine’s day, the interactive play and learn experiences at The Children’s Museum will make it a day to remember. Paint a glass wall, play interactive virtual video games, or watch your drawings come to life on your family adventure. Located at 500 S 20th street.

Relaxation Station

A little for them, a little for you, what about a spa day for two? Schedule a couple’s massage at any of Omaha’s luxury day spas for a rejuvenating escape. Many offer champagne and jacuzzi packages, and anything from rose petals to sushi at an upcharge.

Partners in Crime (solving)

Keep your eyes peeled and flex your playful side, while testing your communication and compatibility at any of Omaha’s escape rooms. Locked Room, Get Out, and The Escape all offer brain busting, puzzle solving fun. Watch for clues, solve riddles, and work together to get out!

Garden View

Yes, it’s cold, but you can offer your funny Valentine a taste of Spring for the day. Whether a literal indoor field of flowers, or more metaphorical foliage, Omaha has offerings to stimulate the senses.

A Weekend Away

Parmele House Bed and Breakfast
Located in Plattsmouth, Parmele House features 3 themed guest rooms, and a peaceful rural setting perfect for getting away from it all. Wild deer and bunnies feel just as at home on the property as you will, and the setting is perfect for a quiet weekend escape.

The Balcony House
Built in the 1890s, the B&B has worked hard to stay ahead of renovations while maintaining the home’s historic charm. Located in the small town (Population of about 2000) of Imperial, Nebraska, the home features three themed suites and two rooms. The scenic five-and-a-half-hour drive will take you away from your every day life, while the wireless internet will keep you connected… if you’re into that sort of thing.

The Convent House
As the name hints, this B&B was the former home of four Benedictine nuns. Located in the tiny village of Steinauer, the possibility of a Kubrik-esque creep factor was completely demolished by the efforts of local volunteers, who converted the convent in the early 90s. The home is now a cozy escape, and the town is a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

I Fall For You Like Water

Did you know that Nebraska is home to several scenic waterfalls? A trip to Niobrara to see Berry, Fort, or Stair Step Falls is a romantic get away without going too far.

Painting Partners

Pinot’s Palette at Lakeside is hosting a Romance on the Beach date night. Paint and sip as you envision yourselves on a sandy shore, then sip some more. Corky Canvas wants you to see what happens when two (paintings) become one. Your two canvases will merge to create a work that can either live separately at your respective homes, or hang cohesively over your mutual love seat. Reservations are required, so be sure to call and stake your seats!

No matter what you’re laying your eyes on this February 14th, we hope it’s beautiful and brings you joy. Thank you for trusting ilumin with your vision, and happy Valentine’s Day!
