Suffering from red eyes? There may be larger issues at play.

Your jet set lifestyle can take its toll on you, but if your red eye doesn’t seem to disappear after a good night’s sleep, there may be larger health issues at play.  Rather than being the primary issue, red eyes are often a symptom of some other problem, the severity of which can be extremely variable.  A partial list, along with links to more information about each item, is below.
Please note that the symptoms and possible related eye conditions and diseases in this post are for general reference only and do not contain all visual symptoms or all possible related conditions or diseases. If you have any unusual vision symptoms, speak with your ilumin ophthalmologist.

Red eye may be associated with many conditions.  Some of the more common ones are:

Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)

Corneal Abrasion

Corneal Ulcer

Eye Allergies

Fungal Keratitis

Herpes Keratitis

Pinguecula Pterygium

Subconjunctival Hemorrhage

While many of the more common causes of red eye do not require treatment, others can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated.  If your red eye is painful, has associated loss of vision, or does not improve in a few days, you should schedule an appointment with your ilumin ophthalmologist.
